Springers in Kapowsin
« on: May 14, 2012, 04:49:10 AM »
Anyone seen, or heard of any spring bear action recently in Kapowsin?
I've been beating the bush over there for the past month. Heard that someone took a yearling on opening day.
I heard a guy take a shot at a cinnamon last Sunday, not sure if he got it, the only glimpse I got of it was after the shot just a flash of fur hauling the mail from open ground to tree cover...

Have you asked Clyde about it? He should know. I would be interested in hearing what he has to say. I did run into a spring bear hunter there Saturday and he was taking a break because he was seeing nothing.

I'm taking all of next week off work to hopefully get my bear. I will be in there everyday.

gotta get out of the rigs and hunt them  bears...the guys are getting pics with bait out.If your not getting poked, wet,or stuck by something you not gonna have a good chance on getting a bear this early..If your not paying the utmost attention to wind and thermals you wont see a bear...someone will get lucky and dump one on the road. These hot days are primo for me if I had a tag,the problem I find with most the people I have taken in,is a great percentage are afraid of bears and thick habitat ...kapowsin is loaded with bears

I was in there last weekend did not see any bears but did see some fresh sign, I have been spending my time in the north end where they say the heavy tree damage is, should I be concentrating further south?

Ive been concentrating more south... results yielding... my inquiry above pretty much sums it up, nada.
I am shocked to hear one 1 game card filled out, in a month, that is a surprise.

I know a lot of guys like hunting them high, but I have had the best luck down low. They are definitely in the thick stuff like rasbo pointed out.

Ahhggg...
A month of beating the bush and another weekend with no action in Kapowsin, for me that is.
Took rasbo's advise and went deep... nothing moving in the dark timber.
Did happen see a cinnamon's ass diving into the brush as I rounded a corner about a mile from the log in booth.
Anybody have any encouraging feed back for this bear-less area?

Scott, are you seeing any sign? I have seen a lot of sign showing up the last few days in different areas.

like I've said before, i don't think I'm very good at judging the stump and log sign but i haven't seen any girdling or scat. i was up kinda high near some beaver ponds, I've heard the like beaver. i was in an area 20' from the reprod in the taller, older timber and sat about an hr. wind was right so then called into the reprod for 45min or so. after that i still hunted the next 4 hr down into a drainage into the wind edging the area full of all the last years girdles. after that i slowly cruised some hidden grassy roads on foot til dark making my way back towards where id parked.

I have not seen peels yet but expect to any day. The sign that I have been seeing show up is huge scat piles. These are ares that I have not seen any until this week. You can not miss it if you are by it. I am sure that they are moving around a lot more now. I have pics of 6 different bears just this weekend in different areas. All at the elevation that I was telling you about.

it is interesting how different the 2 sides are as far as how far along the green is. i will say i have been in about all elevations that property offers over the last week in my trips out. from probably as low a 595 up to 3000 plus

I've been in here all day and haven't seen any fresh sign up high. I saw some down low. Since I'm going to be in here all week I've spent today covering as much ground as I can looking for sign. So I can focus my efforts. I've mainly been up high and have only seen old peels and no scat. Still quite a bit of snow really high. Well time to get back to it.
