Remmington 6mm Mohawk missfire
«
on:
May 15, 2012, 08:54:05 PM »
I've had this gun for a couple of years, last year while practicing before hunting season it started missfiring. 3 out of 5 times I clicked the safety to fire the gun fired without touching the trigger. My dad doesn't want to send it back to Remmington, he's afraid we won't get it back. Where should I take it? Does Cabelas fix guns?

Most do. I would not load the gun till it is fixed.

Tell me, can you work the bolt with the safety on? If so it has had the rem upgrade, if not they should fix it for free. Call them.

Yes, the bolt works with the safety on. We checked the numbers, and it has the markings indicating that it was fixed after a recall back in the early '70s.

Pull the action out of the stock and hose the trigger with some brake cleaner. It's pretty easy for a trigger to get goo in it especially after 40 years. Has this gun had its trigger oiled?

Yes its been oiled, this gun is mint. It only had 5 rounds fired through it before I got it, it's up to 27 now(i'm keeping count). I need to find a good place to take it without mailing it. Any ideas?

Well there might lie your problem. Remington triggers should not be oiled. It only takes a minute to pop it out of the stock and spray the trigger out with carb cleaner. In the future, use lighter fluid to clean/lube rem triggers.

I'd take the drive up to Kesslrings. Really any excuse is good enough for me to take that drive. Just might be my favorite adult toy store! Their gunsmiths are top notch and they've seen just about everything.
