I have to say, the rod-holder is pretty cool, how calm does it have to be out there for you to stay dry?
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

That is awesome...I have a lot of respect for that. I tried it in the sea of cortez trolling flies off of a kayak like that inshore...no good. Had a couple takes but couldn't get the hook set. Congrats.

FC......the rod holder is ok......I either need to have 6 inch longer arms or the rod holder needs to be six inches closer! Staying dry is difficult at times even in the calmest of waters. Being a sit on kayak its got drain holes....two of which are right under the seat! I covered the seat in a garbage bag and that kept my bum dry. You get winds kicking up and "rough" seas (couple foot?)...you get water breaking over into your sitting area. I wear my chest waders and that keeps dry in colder weather. I will say that I was hooking into some big fish and stayed out way too long the first time I had it out ling fishing. I had many waves break into my lap got rather hairy.....the boat did well....although I beached it and walked the 3/4 mile to my car! :)

I usually end up dragging things around without cathing a thing Jack!

Great job...nice looking lings....I keep thinking about taking my boat out tomorrow, but I have really never done any ling fishing in the puget sound.  I have some ideas on where to go and what do to but not for sure.  I guess I need to get out there and try and figure somethings out.

Lots of good area around the south end of Whidbey. Look for rocks, reefs, snaggy stuff. I swear by a white jig. Lots of guys use metal, live bait, spoons, that kind of stuff. They are not to picky. I've caught 'em anywhere from 20 feet all the way down to 100 plus. They don't have air bladders so you can safely release over/undersized fish. Know your slot limit and keep your fingers out of their mouths. Also....big bucktail jigs have worked for me in the past. You will likey catch rockfish at the same time. Also cabezon. Rockfish go back, cabbies get bonked, I belive the limit on them is two.

I have been using primarily squid. Although I agree w/ h2o. White jigs are deadly!
