Trapping reality TV shows

Like it or not they are coming. Hoping for the best but I'm a little worried.

I hope they are more flattering for the profession than some of the other shows are, like the logger show.

Hope they are better than "billy the exterminator" or "Call of the wildman" those guys are idiots.

I think it could be good depending on how the show really intends to portray the sport. Trapping needs to be accepted by today's society so by getting people watching trappers on tv, it could build acceptance. Of course portrayed in the wrong light, it could be damaging. Hopefully the show does a good job.

I would love to learn new tricks from some good quality trappers but doing it on tv were every frame that is shot can be made to look very bad for the trapping folks..... Not good. Sorry but the only good that can come from this is what other trappers can get from it not the general public.

Not sure I would want trapping viewed as a "sport" , that's not why I do it..

If it follows the path of other 'reality' shows it could be bad.  Seems most I've seen want all kinds of screw ups and drama.  One thing to have boats sink or logs crash into yarders, but bad news showing animals having a bad day to the general public.

trapping to me is nuisance, population,and disease control, that's hard for people to understand. not to wipe out a population, but to have a healthy population, with a modest return for doing the hard work. Not a "sport". I just cannot believe the general public gives a lick, until they have a problem.  We are like prostitutes,they know we are out there, just don't want to know what we do, unless they are desperate to get the "rabid"skunk out of their yard.  I have not seen a "reality show" that has ever been worth watching.
Walt Disney made millions, and changed public perception of animal reality.

in saying that it appears there will be shows about trapping, hope they know what the hell they are doing from our perspective.

doubtfull. when ever one subject comes on the reality TV, there will be a bunch to follow. they dint care about anything but ratings & $$$.
We had the crab show & now we have swords,Tuna,lobster & cat fishing. I'm thinking of doing a crawdad show :chuckle:if it ha sent been done.
How many logging.
Survival shows, How many?
If they can show the true reality of Trappers & what they do that would be great, I would love to watch& learn. but i fear there will be a bunch of idiots coming up that have no re guard & will exploit the profession/sport to turn it into profit & show a negative instead of a positive aspect.

Everyone probably has a different outlook regarding what trapping means to them.

I grew up helping my uncle run his trapline both as a hobby and for profit. As soon as I was old enough I ran my own trapline for the same reasons. Trapping was a way of life for me in the late fall and winter every year, it helped me financially during my younger years but more than anything trapping is a great sport and one of my favorite hobbies. No doubt trapping is important for balanced wildlife managment, but trapping is also part of our American heritage and a way of life that anyone should have the chance to experience if they choose to do so.
