Colorado Unit 30
« on: May 16, 2012, 10:29:24 PM »
Well if the backdoor points check in Colorado is right, it looks like I will be hunting unit 30 this year!!! I researched things pretty well before blowing my points and it seams like this should be a very good unit. I am just wondering if anyone on here has hunted it and might have some good tips. Any info helps. Thanks

I have not hunted the unit but almost put in for a second season tag there this year.  What season did you draw?

Had six points. I believe it's a guarantee or just about with five. Ya, it is second season. They only have second and third in that unit if I'm not mistaken. The reports from the biologist say that units 21 and 30 didn't have hardly any winter kill and are saying those two should be some of the best units in the state. Let's hope they are right....

I know everything that I have read about the unit says that it is a very good unit.  I will be very interested on how you do on this hunt.

Was there 2 years ago for the 3rd. season. We all got our deer and had a good time but it was a little disappointing about the quality for the amounts of points and what the the research said. Real heavy oak brush in a lot of the higher areas and the main higher area that wanted to go to was blocked by private property. When wet the roads are nasty, clay.

Thats not what I wanna hear. Ha. Hopefully with the limited tags this unit will keep getting better and better. I know on a couple other forums, I have seen some pigs pulled out of here but surely they are few and far between. How good were the bucks you guys ended up getting and did you at least see any dandies???

Congrats on the draw Lazz.  My brother-n-law and I drew unit 22 3rd season for deer this year and are hoping for an antlerless cow tag as well for the same time.

Ours were gross green scores of 155, 145 and 135. We did not see anything bigger except a harvested one of about 160. A 4 wheeler will get you into some areas that are not accessible by trucks. Since you have the earlier season you want to concentrate on higher elevations. Good Luck
