It is Hunting - but way Off Topic
« on: May 20, 2012, 03:15:36 PM »
Most everything is closed to hunting here so you have to make do...  Decided to head out to the Meadow Country and get some small game hunting in.

We have a huge problem with these small ground squirrels - they are "HE Double Hockey Sticks" on new trees in a forest plantation and the cattle men hate them for all the holes they create in/on the open range.  Doesn't seem to bother the older cows but the youger ones go nuts every once in awhile and run around like kids... until one steps in a ground squirrel hole on the run.

The other fact... there are not enough hunters to controll them - they love the meadows and new plantations around the meadows..

I normally use a Mark II 17HMR, but the 22 LR CCI Stinger ammo is much cheaper - not as explosive but they do the job.

But what fun..

Have you ever had the chance to hunt Hog Meadows?

We were in ER for the poker run, and saw a couple of pups within city limits.

ubetcha.... Another good place to find peepers.  In fact I passed by there this morning on my way to Feather Creek.

They are everywhere...

Another good area are the meadows in the Vassar Meadow area.  When the Forest Service opens the gates on June 15 - I will be able to get back to some really good peeper ground.

I forgot about Vassar Meadows. My 6 yo has been buggin me to take him to shoot some squirrels. Next week when we are out  looking for some new camping spots we may have to swing though there, and go for a walk about.
