My brother and I got up there and camp set up by 2:00 pm 1st day.  We went to the usual glassing areas for the 1st evening but didn't see anything.  Next morning we hit our honeyhole which has produced that past few years but didn't turn up anything this year.  Next few days went this way.  The 2nd night I had a kill...only it was 4 mice.  Little *censored*s chewed up my wool socks and then crapped on them to rub it in, so I got out the traps and put a hurting on the mice the next several nights.  My brother had to go back to work after 3 days and Wazzu99 came up.  We hit a whole new area that morning.  15 minutes into the hike we spotted a sow and 2 cubs on one end of a basin and a lone bear on the other from about 2 miles away.  There was no chance of getting there then, in fact we didn't even know how to other than hike up and down ridges that would have killed us getting there.  After pooring over maps we found a way to get somewhat closer.  The next morning we set out at 0400.  After climbing climbing Mt. Everest to get to a high point we proceeded out about a mile to come out about where we had seen the bear the previous morning.  He hasn't there, even after an hour, so I walked back over towards where we had come from and spotted a bear back across the basin.  We hauled ass back to where we had come from and realized the wind wasn't working with us so we dropped over the back side and worked our towards where we thought he would be.  After about another mile it was time to crest the ridge and have a look.   As soon as we popped over the ridge there he was feeding towards us right on the edge of the VERY steep canyon.  We dropped and ranged him at 115 yds.  I told Wazzu when he turns I'm putting it through the shoulder....I didn't want a chase down to the bottom.  Just then the wind swirled and we were busted.  He sat on his butt sniffed the air and spun.  I fired and watched as he went tumbling out of sight.  Oh, crap I thought.  Turns out he only rolled 75 yrds before coming to a rest.  We skinned and boned him out and it was back to camp to nap.  All told I saw 2 moose, 5 bears, tons of deer, and killed 7 mice.  To top it off Wazzu99 killed a nice Tom with a 9" beard that night.  Kids and wife miss me so I need to cut this short.

Here is the longest bear crap I have ever seen!  I think he lost an intestine!  Also, here is a pick of a possible wolf track in camp.    Maybe a big dog.

I hate work!!  If I had not had to go back, I would have been there to see the action.  I guess I better rephrase that, I did see the initial slaughter of the mice!  Great trip.  Nice looking animals guys....now lets brew a batch of a delicious beverage and get ready for Deer!

Congrats man!  That bear has a beautiful coat!  I've seen over 100 bears in the blues.  Not a single one of them was black!     Congrats on what to me is a rare bear down there.
