Blue Creek Spring Bear
« on: May 21, 2012, 07:40:00 PM »
After waiting eleven years since the last time I drew a spring bear I was drew Blue Creek with my eleven year old son.  The last time I drew he was 4 months from being born.  We hunted a total of 3.5 days over two weekends and saw 6 different bears.  My son was able to get within shooting distance twice with no luck.  We are still planning to go this weekend for his bear.  Finally, after getting up a little late Saturday, May 19th we stopped at McD's and headed to an area I had success during the previous spring bear hunt and started driving up the canyon.  At this time my son had fallen back to sleep and I left him at the truck for a glassing session.  Upon return he was awake and ready so we proceeded up the canyon and as I look across I see a golden figure and I stopped, saying "get your gun".  My son wasn't sure if I was serious.  He soon realized by my voice I was serious and got out and we headed down the hill to cut the distance.  About that time the bear started sniffing the air and promptly headed for cover.  My son said, "Dad its your turn to shoot" I said, "good because I was going to any ways".  About that time the bear appeared below us crossing a log at 359 yds.  I took the shot and hit him toward the back, as he spun around I fired two more shots as he expired face down less than 5 feet from the log he crossed.

Beautiful bear!  Way to go!     Congratulations
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.
