Why is Google Earth's map so old and out dated? Or is there something I am doing wrong? I looked at my house looked to be 2 years old & same with my hunting area? Any thoughts or better map sources?

Yea I think your right the pics are like 2 years old. Some areas are really tough to view in that they were winter shots like area around GPW.

A two year old satelite photograph with enough clarity you can pick out the brand of auto in your driveway isn't good enough?

I use it almost everyday and for multiple states....a bit obsessed about where I'm hunting next.  I've found that the latest photo's date varies greatly by location and zoom level; ie: the latest photo of Spirit Lake might be from 2011 but move over 25 miles towards Mt Adams and you might be looking at 2010.  As I zoom in to look at my own house I at first get a 2010 picture, but if I really want a closeup I am sent back to 2008.  Apparently the last time a usable hi-res photo was taken of my area.  Imagine the luck involved in finding enough clear days to get good photos in Western Washington.

As was mentioned in a prior reply, the timeline feature on the bottom left can be used to find a better picture, but sometimes all of them are disappointing.  I don't know why they'd use November photos of the mountainous areas, but they sometimes do.

The way I see it is: IT'S FREE! and one of the coolest most useful tools ever, so I have no complaints.  You can upgrade to a "PRO" subscription for hundreds of $$$ but I have no idea what that gets you.

Wish I could earn a living hunting!

try mapquest also.  you can use the "map" part of it until you get to where you want to see and switch to satelite.  some pics are newer than google earth, some arent
