Powder in bulk in tacoma?
« on: May 26, 2012, 10:00:46 AM »
Anyone know where I can find powder in larger quantities than 1 lb jugs around jblm, tacoma, etc.? I went last thursday and got the powders I needed (FINALLY!) in sportco in fife but they didn't have anything larger than 1 lb cans. I'd like to buy the larger quantities for powder. Bullets too but I think that's not going to happen locally. I've only found the lacey cabelas to make it pretty easy to buy primers in bulk. I can live with buying bullets online from certain places, but not powder or primers. I don't know anyone else that reloads so buying in 20-30 lb quantities is not much of an option to avoid crazy hazmat charges. Anyone got any ideas? I'm about to start calling around and seeing if anyone can special order the larger jugs for me without ripping me off.

I get mine from grafs.com - even with the hazmat fees it's cheaper than anywhere local and it's delivered to your door.

From what I understand, recent regulations about storage of and quantities of explosive compounds prevents them from being in more than that. If they had larger quantity containers, they would have to be stored in a "magazine" designed specifically for that.  :dunno:

Check out Wideners reloading.  They have IMR4064  8lbs can for $136.50.  & hazmat charge is $27.50  @ Graf & Son it is $158.99

At Cabelas a 1lbs can  is 25.99 & at Wholesale sport it is $23.99 per pound.

There are frequently group buys (makes the hazmat fee minimal) on these two sites...

County Line Shooting Sports (McKenna, 10 minutes outside East Gate) had some 8 lbs jugs the last time I was in there.  No where near the selection of smaller containers, so you might want to call before you drive.
