Atlantic Salmon in our waters?
« on: May 27, 2012, 02:52:32 PM »
What's with the Atlantic Salmon pens in the Puget Sound?  :yike: We really don't want the virus problem in our waters.  :bdid:

:bdid: :bdid:  That is redonkulous!   I don’t even think that net pen feed lots with Pacific salmon are a good idea, but Atlantic salmon!?!?  Thanks for posting the article.  Are there any sportsman’s organizations that are opposing the Atlantic fish farms?

The net pens ripped years ago dumped a bunch of fish into the sound. Wdfw said kill em all. I doubt there's many if any left.

Still see posters for the escaped salmon at some boat ramps with the phone number.  I haven't seen any in the salt.  There are some that have been stocked in high lakes.  I tend to be less worried about the pen fish than the hatchery fish.

They need to eliminate all salmon net pens in the Sound!  The Squaxin's are raising coho to be released but when they come back they are useless to sportsmen because they do not bite.  Atlantic salmon are very aggressive and if they make it into spawning streams, will destroy all other salmon species nests.

Fun times in Sinclair Inlet when that happened hah.  There were crazy amount of boats there throwing buzzbombs at those fish.

I've caught three of them out of the Snohomish over the years. All of them fought like hell, way harder than any steelhead I'd ever caught pound for pound that was for sure. I haven't heard of any in quite a few years though.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

yeah... Pass lake right outside of anacortes has em...

hell, not even 2 miles off fidalgo island (anacortes) we have salmon pens (on cypress island).... there is some vicious currents that go through that passage, so im pretty sure there arent any issues with waste or anything but still.........

whats the old saying?
