Should be fun!

Don't worry about being judged, you guys will all do fine and if nothing else every one will come out of this a better caller.  I like listening to everyone's calling strategy and what they think elk sound like.

Talking with Paul one thing he really looks for in contest judging is accurate length calls.  In contests a lot of time callers will let out a 6 to 8 second bugle which isn't very natural.  As far as what Corey looks for - Perfection :chuckle:

This WILL be fun!

I won't be looking for the perfect sound or perfect call, but I'll be looking for believable sounds. Yes as Jason points out sound management is as important as ones sound quality. Either can be over done! Pure notes with a nice transition from one sound to another shows confidence & control, this only comes from lots of practicing. Some will put out that type of effort & some will not, judges generally can hear those that really put time into their practice & these hunters separate themselves from the others! It's all about having fun so get out there & polish up & fine tune your strengths! If you are not good at certain sounds don't use them, stay with what you do best & still have a variety! Good cows sounds are as necessary as good bull sounds!

I really look forward to hearing you all!! Good Luck to everyone!!

Just got word that Charlie's Taxidermy will be kicking in a $125 gift certificate.

Prizes are starting to get pretty good and I have a couple more companies I'm waiting to hear back from.

Now this is a great idea! I've thought many times about trying to enter different elk calling contests that I've heard about but usually they are to far away. Right now I'm that guy who drives down I-5 and through town on the way to work every day just bugling and cow calling away. I've found that recording myself on my cell phone the first half of the drive and then listening to it the second half (and then comparing it to the sounds on the elknut CD),  a guy can really learn a lot and tweak his calling a bit. I thought I was a pretty decent caller before doing this, but now I realize how far I have to go. Anyway, I'm in on this contest. I do think that the ability to list the admissions anonymously, or at least the top ten so everyone can hear them would be great as well.

Wow this is going to be tuff. I have been recording myself and I sound like sheet! Well not that bad, I definitely know I need to tweak a few things and to trim down to a minute. 20 seconds for each is tuff, I'll have to pick and choose what type of calls I'm going to use with in that 20 seconds. This sure does allow me to practice, practice and practice, if I don't get any thing out of this at least I had a lot of practice!!

Great offer Jason... the only problem is that once I win, it will be obvious I don't need any call products.... :dunno: I can't lose with the stuff I use.... :IBCOOL:

Couldn't resist...

Good deal for sure.

WORKFLOW:

I went ahead and did this two different ways:

1)I made a video and then transferred it to YouTube.  You can than use many online converters to convert the Youtube video to an .mp3 (google search).  What you can do is enter in the letters pwn right after the www. when watching the video and hit enter.  This will take you to a screen where all the available converters that YouTube supports are.  I used OnlineConverter.  Otherwise you can go to google and search for "youtube to mp3 converter" and use one of your choice.

2)I also used a program called Free Video Converter.  Here, you can convert any video to an .mp3 directly (It must be downloaded to your computer though).

I also advise that everyone uses a 256 kbps transfer to make sure that they are getting the highest audio quality.  Then just email me the .mp3 file with your name and user name attached.

Is everyone honing up on their calling?  Only a couple of days until we start taking submissions.

Should I add a 25 post minimum to enter to make sure we don't get people that aren't somewhat regulars?

If I sit right and eat lots of trail snacks,  I can make some interesting cow muaws (does that count)...sometimes some bull grunts too if I force it just right.  I better start powering up on the beans because trail mix's aren't digested until september.  It could be a bad idea, normally realized after the attempt. :chuckle:

Good luck to all and I look forward to hearing some good stuff.

can we post our own sounds on this thread, just for fun, but submit our entry to you ?

I assume we are only aloud one entry ??  :chuckle:

I'm going to keep it to one track per caller and ALL will be posted (we have to judge them all anyways).  We can always share sounds elsewhere on the forum though.
