Taking a Newbie for a Ride Along
« on: August 08, 2008, 10:51:59 AM »
I'm going to hit the woods for a bear on Sunday.  I'm thinking to go north of U.S. 2 somewhere around Index/Gold Bar. Maybe venture towards the Spada Lake area.  Anyhow, I'm taking a coworker who hasn't hunted before.  He's shot guns and is a bit interested in owning one down the line, but my goal for this first trip is to get him excited about hunting. That way, I have one more hunting buddy at my disposal  :chuckle:

Obviously, it would be best if we got a bear.. but odds are heavily against us so I want him to have a good time. He wont be hunting, just hiking along side me and watching what I do.  Any tips?  Thanks.

Does he have outdoor experience in general?  I find the neatest part of hunting to be contemplation, meditation, and being sneaky.  I like to try and find ways to improve my sneakyness in the woods ie: walking quieter, being more aware.  Try and instill this in him, and it may make him more excited about hunting in general.

Was thinking of heading into the same area this weekend.  Probably more like tomorrow though, not sure yet.

If you see me I am in white dodge ram with white superman decals.  Stop by.

GOOD LUCK!

K, will do... I think we'll access via USFS Rd 63, etc (the one you take to Blanca Lake, West Cady Ridge).  Red Toyota Tundra w/canopy

Maybe I I'll add some "Re-elect Gregoire" stickers to stand out....   :bdid:

There will be at least a few bear hunters passing my rig who didn't get a bear and they'll stop and say "well... at least we can get in some target practice...."

We're off!  I hope to see you up there tomorrow.  We'll be off the USFS 65 system in the morning; who knows where after that.  But no, I wont be donning the Gregoire stickers so you'll have to use some hippie's Subaru for target practice  :chuckle:
