Camping in Winston
« on: June 06, 2012, 08:20:42 PM »
So I had a random thought, camping on Weyco in winston isnt allowed but what if you camp on a piece of state land in the winston.  Is this allowed?  Im pretty sure there is some of it up there.

Yes you can camp on the state land. Supposed to have a discovery pass though  :bash:
There are a ton of people that camp out during bow season and even more during rifle.

lol, its a nightmare up there... Honestly you would be better off finding another place to camp. sure there is elk however your looking at "combat hunting" for most of the season. To answer your question Im pretty sure you can camp on DNR land no problems but you should probably get up there a couple days early or you will have to set up elk camp in a motel.

I hunted the Winston for general rifle last year and it was the last time.  There is a camp in EVERY clearcut.

Finding a camping spot with a small rig is much easier than with a group.  You would need to get there a bit earlier for the best spots.  The elk are smart and go into the reprod but if you do some homework you can get one.

Just to let you know I have been thinking about opening up my lower property to some hunters, I live very close to the town of Toutle, the property is on the north fork of the toutle river.

There are camps set up everywhere on the state land and a few throughout Weyerhaeusers land.Your better off staying at one of the camp grounds.

FWIW, when I hunt in GMU 520 Winston; I stay at Ike Kinswa or Seaquest State Park (depending on what area of the GMU I will hunt).

yes you can camp on the state land , but you may be better off to stay in the kid valley campground or one of the others. if you go thru state land during modern firearm you cant drive 20 yards with out seeing a campsite. :yike:
