I'm contemplating picking up a 75 round drum mag and bringing my AKMS with me this season.  The looks on people's faces would be PRICELESS!  A picture of me holding a big ole buck with my AK w/drum mag laying accross it's body would be a perfect addition to my hunting picture collection. :chuckle:

Don't forget it can hold no more than 5 rounds for deer!

Where is that written, my 338 Federal holds 7
When I pass, do not let my wife sell the guns for what I told her they cost.

There's no mag restriction for deer.  Only restriction falls under caliber of use.  .24 caliber or larger.
7mm-08 makes for a great AR round.

What upper are you using?  I seriously want an AR in .338 Federal.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I have gotten two deer with my 6.8. I use 25 round magazines in mine. I will be muzzle loading this year but next year I am going to try and get a deer with my 6.8 pistol .

It would take all 75 to hit a deer with an AK.   :chuckle:

In Oregon for semi auto rifles it cannot have the capacity to hold more than 5 rounds. I used to hunt Oregon, and hunted deer with my SKS. It held 10 rounds, but I only put 5 rounds in it. Was stopped by a statey one day and he saw what I was hunting with but didn't seem to care. But yeah As many rounds as you want here in this state, but no full auto.
That wasn't me! It was a black Camaro! It went that way!

Rules say .24 caliber or larger centerfire rifle or pistol. Pistols must have a 4 inch or longer barrel. The magazine capacity restriction in this state, except for shotguns, went away probably twenty years ago. Got in a discussion with a retired WSP officer one time and he swore that there was still a 5 round restriction, after doing some research he came back and apologized and admitted that he was wrong.

Oly Arms makes several AR15's in deer calibers..

243 WSSM
.25 WSSM
.30 OSSM

All very lethal...

The .25 WSSM gives you .257 Roberts +P velocities... would make an awesome combo predator/deer gun out to 400 yards with a good barrel.   Ammo can be bought off the shelf, but as always, reloading will give you your best value.

I have a few of the Olympic Arms AR's and love them, My favorite is the 300 OSSM, they have made some great changes to that gun and it shoots like a dream. My wife loves her 243 WSSM too. Damn good shooten guns for sure.  :twocents:

5 round limit went away several years ago, but I'm pretty sure I remember that used to be the case here.

OOPS! My bad! I remember being told this when I first started hunting and was shopping for my rifle back in 2000? that it couldn't hold more than 5 rounds, so that's what I bought, that's what I still have, guess I never paid attention to that aspect of the regs since?! LOL

Good thing they didn't change it to 3 rounds haha! thanks for the correction and GOOD to know!! An AR?? Hunting?? BAAAADASSSS!!!

An AK is actually an ok hunting rifle... the 7.62x39  has equivalent ballistics to the 30-30... My brother used his AK for brush hunting and did get some funny looks.  :chuckle:
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
