Finally Drew Chiwawa!!
« on: June 09, 2012, 03:59:48 PM »
Been wanting that tag soooo loooong! I have been selected with 10 pts for the quality rifle. I shot my first deer there as a kid. Have only hunted there a few times in the last 20 yrs though. Time for exploring and camping this summer.

The buck on the right came from this unit in 1964. These are my Dad's bucks.

Congratulations, that is a great hunt.  Those are some darn nice dear you have there.  Hope you score a big one.  If you see a green jeep or red dodge 2500 this summer up there give a wave.

I will post pics from my game cameras as they come in this summer.  Even though I drew the mission unit I am kinda jealous of you guys cause the Chiwawa is an amazing place.

Great bucks on that wall!

When you scout the unit earlier, you might take along a bear rifle & tag.

Here are a few we spotted last year.  Not great quality cause they were 700 yds away and was using a point a nd shoot through the binos to get these.  The one laying down is huge pics don't do it justice.

Here's one we spotted a couple years back during the early archery season right along the side of the road. We aren't bowhunters so when we drove a few hundred yards further down the road and pulled up alongside a group of hunters standing around, chitchattin and drinking beer, our lips were sealed. Gotta love those Chiwawa bucks! We've taken some dandies out of that unit over the years. I dream about that tag all the time. Congratulations and good luck!

Nice, I drew the rifle tag as well!  Looking forward to it!

Never hunted the Chiwawa that time of year.  I've spent a lot of time on the Lake Wenatchee side over the years, but my sense is that most of the migration takes place on the Ardenvoir side.  Was up there this weekend getting a brief lay of the land over there.  Anyway, need to do a lot more learning between now and November.

I drew the tag 4 years ago and held out for a slammer but never found one. We had no snow at all which made it very tough. Plenty of 130/140 class bucks but nothing big and I hunted hard for 9 days. Took a pretty 4 point on day nine (130 class). I can help.I have spent a lot of time there and would do things a bit differently next time around...Funny thing is I got a 180 class buck during the general season the year before so you never know....
