I wish the story said more about the farmer.  There are few things better than a farmer protecting his livelihood.  It reminds me of the movie "Night of the Grizzly".

It would be amazing to me if we found out in Canada that protecting your property isn't a crime, but it is here.

It is my opinion that the only reason WDFW has said anything about it is becaue it involved another party.  They figured word would get out so they thought they might as well be the ones to spill it.  Everytime anyone asks questions about movement etc....they don't seem to know anything.

Nothing to see here, move along.  Wolves only showed up a couple years ago ending 70 years of absents in WA state.

Now I dont think there should be exact locations given but WDFW disclosing how many wolves are collared and how many seem to be transient and how many seem to have set territories is absolutely within reason to disclose.  How is the public and commission supposed to form a educated opinion without all the facts?  Why so much secrecy?

Area ranchers and residents with pets need to know when they are in wolf country, or maybe I should have said when wolves are in their country.

Its possible.  They certainly have a lot to gain from manipulating the data.  Not saying they are but the risk is there.  And with how unnecessarily secretive they are with info and with the way they manage other predators it leaves the door open for speculation.

I don't understand where this idea comes from that the WDFW is "secretive" about wolf information. Has anyone called and talked to the right person and asked questions? And did you not get any information? I just don't know what you guys are expecting? A news release issued daily to report all wolf movement? I never knew it was their job to keep the public informed on every wildlife study they are doing. Should they also keep the public informed of every deer, bear, and elk they may be tracking with collars?

In the meetings I went to, put on by THEM.....they were not exactly "open" about information.

I honestly think the agencies are way behind on wolf numbers and have no idea there are as many wolves as there are. But the agencies are the ones with sattelite collars on wolves, they obviously are going to learn a lot about wolves, info that none of the agencies in any of the affected wolf states have been very forthcoming about.

Imagine if members of this forum or some other trappers and hunters we all know could trap and collar wolves and monitor them, imagine the wealth of info that could be gathered.

Okay, those meetings tend to get extremely emotional and out of hand, so I would think that dept. treats them a certain way to try to keep the outcries down. I'm surprised with how much they put up with, to be honest.

There is no law against not volunteering information(for a deemably good reason). Outright lying is one thing, but not the same.

Yes, yes there is. Especially within government projects that are not secretive in nature.
