Yeah.  Kind of feels like cheating but they all taste the same and it's fun for my son.  Freezer is getting full pretty fast.  A buddy from work pulled a 10.5 lb rainbow out of there last weekend.

My boys pulled a 7.5 and a 6.5 pounder during the derby out there.  They were pretty excited to take first in both of their age brackets.

I've only heard that there are crappie in there.  Haven't actually fished for them.

Nice!  I didn't hear about the derby until the day after :bash:

Nice job fellas.  Sometimes just getting out on the local lake is just the thing a guy needs.  Looks like your kid had some fun!

I hope that you dont mind me posting these pictures here patton1.  Just adding them here so people can definately make a effort to get their kids to next years derby.  They put on a understanding derby with tons of raffle prizes, good food, and great big and small fish prizes.   There was just over 200 kids this year with 4 age catogories.  Both boys won biggest fish in their brackets.

Heart lake is public.  They do shut the lake down for a few days before the derby to limit the pressure for the kids.  This year they dumped 30 fish from 5-9 pounds and 20 over 9 pounds to get the kids blood pumping.  The day of the derby 5 of the 5-9 pounders caught but no over 9 were.

It's a nice little lake. I wish I would have known about the derby a day earlier.  I'll make sure not to miss it next year.  We were going to head up there today but the weather made decide to wait and see what tomorrow is like.  It's awesome getting kids out there ans away from the video games and TV.  Your boys got some nice ones there Jerome :)
