Wa State to consider scaling back Cougar harvest

Once again WDFW seems the be caving in to the anti hunting groups pressures and giving them too much influence. Its one thing if the state determine that changes are needed to effectivly manage the cougar pop., its anothing thing if they are caving to public (anti's)  pressure to do the management for them

atleast they did open up klickitat, a lil closer for us on the westside, but damn cutting back 40% . then in a few more years the popluations while be so high they release more tags again. its stupid, im 17 and i could run this cougar managment program better than these guys

How many people, pets, livestock, etc getting killed is it going to take for them to wake up?

Hunters kill indiscriminatley in one sentence, and another says hunters kill all the adults leaving only younger one which are causing the trouble?

There were a couple stories this summer about cougar in the city limits around seattle and a little farther south somewhere. if they are needing to come to town for dinner whats that say about there numbers?

While I don't agree with most of their reasoning, I do understand some of it.

If a large male has x miles of territory that he defends then the younger cats need to find new territory. If the large tom is removed then two, maybe more, younger cats can use that same amount of space.

Just like coyotes. If you have a pack that controls a large piece of land and kill the alpha male or pair then often you will end up with two packs sharing the same piece of land.
