which tag modern, muzzle or archery?
"Shoot the spike".  It's much easier to pack out!

What's your or his I guess.... hunting style?
Do you like to hike? A lot of it is steep and thick. Have you guys been in there before?

Congrats to your dad on drawing this tag! I had the tag 5 or 6 yrs ago you guys will have a great hunt!

Did you draw a moose tag last year? If so, you may want to post a story & pics of that hunt. (Sorry I missed it if you did). I'll bet there are lots on here who would love to know how your hunt went. You may also have some intel for a lucky moose tag holder for this year.

My info is a little outdated but may be a good place to start. Shoot me a pm if interested.
Good luck to You & your dad!

There are two roads on top of either side of the tucannon you should glass/hunt from. You can hunt from the river up but its much easier from the top down. If you hunt from the bottom up you will have had to hunted there before to know where the elk move in from the top, and I am assuming you haven't hunted here before so stick to the top and spot your bull before you go down after it. That is all that you need to know about the tucannon. Go drive those roads and find places to glass.  Enjoy.

Bulls everywhere. Monster bulls? Yes and no. We had an incredibly tough hunt last year. I put on a ton of miles and we had pre scouting and it was hard to find truly big bulls. If I had to do it over I would have found a way to go guided or at least get a drop camp. Money was real tight last year so I didn't go that direction.

And trust me, I hunt pretty hard. We hunted the shed in 2010,  I go on a couple DIY out of state hunts every year, and keep in shape by doing concrete work.

It takes time to learn every area.  The guys who Have hunted there for years already know where  they will be opening morning and probably have seen the bull they wanna tag for a few years.  They have had a lot of time to pattern it and the elk in the area.  They know where they run, where they hide, and where they are not.
The guys who apply cause they hear rumors will have to work very hard this summer to learn the area and then learn the elk that live there.

I disagree, although there are some flatter spots.

fun country, just watch out for the poison ivy, biting ants, yellow jackets, snakes, pack rats, skunks, wolves, pot growers, etc. They've already wiped out the elk herd. ;)

The blues are like a love hate relationship.  When its good its good but when its bad its is baaad.  I love hunting it because it doesnt take much to get away from people and you may just see a b&c animal.  I hate the blues because you always seem to be in a three point stance while hunting.  The blues sure make you earn it.  The reward is ever so sweet.
