I drew a Peaches Ridge Archery Tag!
« on: June 11, 2012, 11:54:04 AM »
I hear great thing on this unit and done my fair share of research, but of course, I would love to hear some info from guys on this board that have received this tag.

Any info would be appreciated as to what you know about the area, what you would do differently if you could go again, etc.

Thanks!

It is a great hunt!!    Unfortunately, it has slowed down since becoming an open area, BUT you will get a lot of action just about anywhere you go.

We hunt there every year.  No one in our group of 9 got drawn with points ranging from 6 - 12 :bash:
but that is how it goes.

Best of luck on a great hunt!

Thanks! I truely am VERY lucky. I did not have close to the amount of points it sounds like you and your posse have.

I use to hunt the Quartz creek drainage back before the spike only rule began.  I came back last Labor Day weekend and noticed all the clear cuts had grown in and the roads hadn't been maintained.  Still the same amount of jeepers cruising around and I guess they love the rough roads.  Saw one six point.  He almost gave us the slip, but turned his head and those antlers were too big to miss.

Get over there and start covering ground and locating points of interest.  With the archery tag, the think stuff in there won't be an issue.  Different story out of the rut with a rifle.  The FS office in Naches has several good maps.  The one the sheriffs office puts out has some good roads/trails.  They sell that map at the FS office also.  Should be a fun hunt.

It should be a very fun hunt, not a slam dunk though. It takes a little luck with all your skills to stick any bull much less a trophy. I've been with guys that hunt that area every year and once in a while they draw bull tags. They are some of the best elk hunters I know and they still haven't killed 320 or bigger bulls BUT they have taken multiple bulls. Last year was their best year ever, they posted their pic's on the forum. These guys hunt, scout, and prepare for the hunt better than anyone I know. You have some work cut out for you, but you will have fun. Look for dark deep canyons, that's my best input. The state really screwed that unit up when they let people hunt spikes and cows in there on the early hunt, huge mistake. Good luck and have fun.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Good luck to you.  I am sure you can make it happen if you get off the beaten path.  It is still archery though so there are no guarantees.
