how much can a raccon eat?
« on: June 11, 2012, 11:15:46 PM »
We got new property in the middle of no where, which is just where i like it. But the old owners left behind two cats. So we decided to feed them but soon discovered a big fat coon stealing their food. Now a few pounds i can see but a fifteen pound bag in one night has me wondering if the bear isnt helping him, i have no tracks to prove the bear has been eating it. I have seen the coon eating the cat food though. Cant wait for his pelt to be prime.

Raccoons I'm not sure.  I do know they can make a whole pen of ducks disappear in a few nights.

I grew up on a dairy farm.  The cats took care of most of the mice, but I think the rats were big enough they wouldn't mess with 'em. I do know that a few pack rats can clean a full bag of grain in one night. We had a lot of fun nights with or Benjamin pellet rifles and a jar of peanut butter.  That's good fun for the whole family.

Might be a fun use of a game camera.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

a few miles south of springdale, backed up to a few hundred acres of stateland, which connects to a few thousand acres of designated forest land  :chuckle: :chuckle: just a horrible spot to hunt and trap that's all   :chuckle: :chuckle: bad part is it's going to take me two years to figure out the area really well.

If one fat coon is there there are more. When i as a kid we moved into a house where the people fed the coons. 50lb bag a month. I have i pic with 13 coons and or pairs of eyses off the back portch.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Sounds like a good spot.  Neighbors had a racoon family at their patio every night while they fed their cat outside.  When the cat died, the racoons stopped coming around.  Never saw a track or sign of them around my place, two houses away.  :'(
