Plenty of elk. Shoot one close to the access road and wait for them to open it to allow people to retrieve their animals.

I had a muzzy antlerless tag about 3 or 4 yrs ago and turned right at the Toutle Shell station and went in on that side. There's a lot more area and roads to drive around on and find the elk. Lottsa elk in there.

the mudflow isnt up by the road. (hwy 504) if you dont cross the creek at the bottom, your not in the mudflow unit.  :twocents:  also , we called weyerhauser last year when blindpigs boy got a cow. they said no chance on getting that gate open. bring a game cart or 2 and you will be fine.  good luck
you cant eat the horns, but backstraps look like crap on my wall!!!!

The hunt is on public land (WDFW St. Helens Wildlife Area) and some DNR, but the real ironic thing is the access is controlled by Weyerhaeuser so the entire unit is landlocked.  After lugging your elk on closed roads with Weyco. permission, write to the WDFW and tell them it's a crock the public doesn't have legal access to this public land.

by what can see the "creek at the bottom" is the river. think they expanded the boundary a bit as well. my son drew a muzzy bull tag and it will be one heck of a pack if he connects... I've only been there twice and don't know anything about the south or toutle side of unit except I believe it would be accessed through weyco gates via the toutle

You should probably recheck the boundary for your own future reference.   :twocents:
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

I drew it last year, never could connect with a cow.  Not a good unit for archery unless you have a bull tag.  South side is very step as it is the north face.  Best of luck.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
