Pogue buck tag?
« on: June 12, 2012, 02:15:58 PM »
My dad drew a pogue whitetail buck tag. wondering what everyone thinks about this hunt and if its worth the points he used on it. We have not spent much time in this unit so we are kinda going into it blind. Needless to say hes worried and needs some encouraging info from you guys that have hunted it before.

I had the any buck tag last year.

I did not see any whitetail in Scotch Creek, or the surrounding forest service land. We did see a few nice whitetail bucks, but they were all on private land.

Check with the wildlife Mgr Jim Olson. He lives in the unit.
Cast all your anxiety upon him, for he cares for you.    1 Peter 5:7

Threre are some dandy whitetails in that GMU....most on private land.   I would start knocking on doors and / or I would bite the bullet and use one of the guide services in Omak/Okanogan.  If you want information on Guides let me know....the is another member that works for the local guides, maybe he could point you in the right direction.

Not many whitetail there.  With a little legwork, you might be able to find a basket-style 3 point.  Most whiteys there reside on or near the private.  A lot of the private where they're concentrated  is leased.  Best of luck to your dad, and I hope he kills one of those rats.

We've got a cabin in the Limebelt and I've never seen a whitetail in our paricular area. That doesn't mean they're not there. Haberly is a huge landowner near there, maybe ask him for permission and see what he says. All of his land is posted so I'm not sure what he'll say. Good luck.
There is a buttload of huntable land in the Pogue unit.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Yeah but finding a nice white-tailed buck will be a challenge. Start knocking on doors.

This is a whitetail tag.  Why would you want to hunt Haeberle's anyway?

The biggest whitetail I have seen in the Pogue was on Haberly's. Absolute stud but haven't seen anything even close to that since and that was 4 years ago. I see a few dinks on public land every once in a while. I think Rod wants $3k for access the last time I heard. Pretty steep IMO for what you get.

The thing is, the whitetails go onto public land after they feed on Haberlys.............

Why would they pass up all the alfalfa fields in between to get to Haeberle's? They don't, but if you want to spend time there searching for one, go ahead.  ;)

ive hunted this unit for nearly 20 years now. Ive shot a whitetail 5 of the last six years, the one time i didnt....the firing pin broke on my gun  :bash: I dont have much to offer other than they are in there. I would give a nut for that tag  :chuckle: and not to sound like an ahole, but I just dont know how someone can draw a rut tag and feel like they "wasted" thier points.  :dunno:
