2nd bear down
« on: August 09, 2008, 05:52:02 PM »
Well it's short and sweet story here. Got off work hauled ass out to my spot, change into my hunting clothes headed into my spot and on my way I spotted a bear way over on the other side of the canyon and called the wife and told her here we go again, that I was looking at one and told her I would call her in hour when I got one. Decided to head to my spot and watch him for awhile. When I got to my stump, I looked down in the canyon to my left nothing, look to the right and there she was. I hadn't even drop my pack off yet. So she had no clue I was there, so I took my pack off and got a good rest on my stump and watch here for a few minutes and she hopped upon a log and then I let one fly and she jumped up I swear 4 feet straight into the air and rolled off the log about 15 feet and all was still. She is 4foot 7inches length. Not a giant but she will do for dinner. My season is now done, but now my boy wants one so off we go next weekend to get him his first.

Damn.  You must have the area down pretty good!

CONGRATULATIONS!

I have not hunted them much lately, but have not gotten a bear since around 95!

Alot of time spent before the season and through the year. I live for this stuff. Now can't wait to see the boy get his first bear and first big game animal. Bringing home two bears now has him pumped up to go and get one himself. Thanks guys, feel pretty blessed to have taken two this year so quick. Wish the best of luck to all of you still hunting. This year is by far the best year for bear hunting I've seen in the 12yrs I've been hunting bears. Also this year the population is probably the highest it's been in alot of years.

Nice job Snowman, what about the details??

I see the rifle is a Remmy, what about caliber, distance of shot, needs me some details!  ;)

Well my remmy is a 7mm mag and the shot was around 200yds. Hit her in the money maker. I'm using the new fusion rounds in 175 grain. Love them, work great. It is the first season using this rife. Bought it over this last winter. I have found the gun I'll be using the rest of my life. I have always wanted a 7mm mag.

The tree on the right at the top of the canyon is where I shot from. The second is dirtydan4. He was where I shot from.

At least you guys have been able to get out.  :bash:  I still have a week before my first trip.  Nice job Snowman.  I hope you and your boy lay the hurt on another one.  Of course be prepared for the kid to outdo his oldman and shoot a monster.

Great Pics, good color.
Do you have a "Hunting Album" where you keep all the pics from you and family/friends hunting camps etc? Sure something cool to check out over time.

Nice shootin', good luck with the second!
