Custom Lefever 16ga sxs
« on: June 16, 2012, 07:30:25 AM »
Here is a Lefever 16ga sxs (born 1903 +/-) that I converted from pistol grip (bottom gun in first photo) to straight grip, and I added fancy marble cake grain, a chukar on the forend, and my initials on a custom fleur de lis.  It's my main upland gun, with 30" like new steel barrels choked ic/m.  Lefevers never wear out due to an action adjusting screw, and they shoot really nice.  This is a smooooth swinging gun, especially on long crossers.

It is actually a gun I used to own, and sold five years ago, when I had this brittany.  I found it for sale again at a local shop, and jumped on it, for sentimental reasons.  It's good to be re-acquainted, especially since the brit has passed on.  Here's a pic of the gun and brit about five or six years ago:

That is nice!  It looks like getting reaquainted was a good thing for the Lafever.  You've turned it into something special.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

gorgeous gun! first rate job. I wish Beretta would have taken some tips from you when they came up with their ugly "extra wood". your stuff is damn hard to tell apart from the real thing. I especially like the chukar on the fore arm latch

did you have to restock it? or did you convert the original stock?... or is that a trade secret :chuckle:

Im thinking its about time I dip my toes in the vintage gun world, I already shoot 2 1/2" low pressure loads... just gotta find a proper fowling piece.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.   No trade secrets or re-stock, I just converted it from a pistol grip to a straight grip.  I do that pretty frequently.  It's not easy, because you have to inlet and weld a new long tang, change toe angles, etc., but I really like straight grips, and all my guns have them except for the plastic 311 I recently picked up.  I also remove cheek pieces fairly frequently.  :IBCOOL:
