Hey merriammagician is that buck in the first picture you posted missing his left eye? Sure looks like blood on his cheek, and that eye looks a little different.

I never really noticed that before, but it does kind of look that way. The amazing thing about that pic is that I came over a sand dune and he was just bedded 20 feet away. He got to his feet and just stared at me for over 5 minutes. Then he slowly just meandered off.

Heres my 2006 desert buck. Definitely not the buck I wanted but he is respectable. I was still pretty young on that hunt and after 8 straight days of early mornings and hiking 5 - 12 miles every day, I settled for him. There were 6 or 7 better ones that I passed on the first few days.

Here is a Desert buck I passed on.

feature=relmfu

If you haven't hunted this unit before it has to be one of the hardest.  It looks like a bunch of sage, however it's all about five feet tall.   The deer take a few steps and just disappear

I live in this unit  and have been seeing some does but the other morning noticed six deer in the yard one looked like a buck so grabed the binos it was six bucks and one was gonna be a five point.   I tried to take pics but they were into the sun and I could not get a decent pic!

It wasn't too hard to pass because at this point in the hunt I was still convinced I was going to see a 200'..... :o

The deer was only at 100 yds so I was set up on my shooting sticks right next to my H.S. buddy who was filming it.  The deer was in the crosshairs for a short period of time.

I think the deer I shot is bigger, I guess it depends on how big you think that deer is.  I know mine is wider and has more mass but the fronts on that deer were huge.

I got lucky on the deer hunt and shot the biggest deer I saw......can't say the same for elk.     :bash:  Just the way it goes if you want to hold out for a "holy sh*t" animal.
