Dear Hunters,
We are sending this to you asking for your support as the introduction of wolves in Montana and neighboring states has been detrimental to our deer elk and moose herds here in Montana and in some areas devastating.
The Montana Fish and Game Commission will decide on June 25th weather to adopt new and more aggressive management goals recommended by the MDFWP which are good but they do not go far enough.
Are you willing to rise and give voice on a vital issue affecting the very future of hunting in Montana? If so then please do the following:
Send an email message to the FWP Commission fwpcomm@mt.gov that you expect them to approve significant changes to the wolf hunting season that will simplify and expand hunting and trapping opportunity in Montana.
We have a sample letter you can use or alter as you like below. We request support from both residents and non-residents alike.
Dear Commissioners:
I support the MFWP wolf season tentative proposal but believe the proposal is not liberal enough and that it needs the following six changes:
Delete the .425 minimum target/objective - this is a dangerous precedent and the number has no biological basis
Include snaring for general trapping season and set season to run January 1, 2013 - March 31, 2013. A snare is far more human than a foot trap as it is designed to kill the animal.
Eliminate the 48 hr. trap check requirement and apply existing recommendations.
General gun seasons to open September 1 and end March 31.
Reduce the cost of non-resident license to $50 and allow five permits per person. Make it affordable to Nonresidents and license more hunters in the field. Taking more wolves is the goal, this will help do this and the MDFWP will sell more licenses than at current level.
Eliminate the five-day waiting period between license purchase and start of hunt. This just adds more regulation.
Thank you for your consideration on such an incredibly important decision toward our existing wildlife.
Respectfully Yours,
