I think I may need to stick to calling elk and killing them. My chances of calling competitively are pretty weak. lol. :)

same here slim.  i think i call to kill better than calling to win.

Killing elk is what it is all about!!!  We for some reason have to turn everything into a competition (that is really hard to judge). :dunno:

I hope it was fun and somebody became a better elk caller because of it.

Not sure about everyone else (aside from agonizing wait for the results, lol) I had a blast and it forced me to break out the calls and start practicing.

I was #20. Still room from improvement and I certainly picked up some good pointers from quite a few of you!

I still want to hear #6 chuckle and grunt :) :)

Thanks for putting this on, Jason. Truly one of the best learning tools out there for us elk hunters to dial in on how to improve our calling.

Only one more month until elk season. If this didn't get y'all excited to get your calls going, absolutely nothing will!

I'm not going to complain with my place, I only used one mouth reed and a bugle for everything. I didn't realize I could use external reeds until after I submitted so I'm happy. Would love to do this again next year :)

Congrats to the winners  :IBCOOL:

If you guys could, it would be great for all of us to know what you are looking for in a competition like this. Just correct sounds, sequences, variation etc.etc.

Thanks for putting is on!

We need to give a BIG THANKS to all the judges for taking time out of their busy schedule to listen, judge and participate in this contest. Remember practice makes you closer to perfect, No ONE is perfect! Great job to all that participated as well, remember to practice your calling but remember to shoot more often, that will be the final decision when releasing that arrow towards bagging your trophy!!--

What device did everyone use to record on and what environment and how many attempts. Just kinda curious
Mine was second attempt, sitting on my bed recording with my cellphone in my hand with diaphram mouth call
I was pretty impressed with the sound quality of all the callers
To me ,Mine sounded like an old transistor radio while most others sounded boze quality
Pretty much ended up right where i thought i would :chuckle: :chuckle:
Caller # 15
Nice job to all participants some real quality callers on here
Thanks Jason this was an awesome event

I judged based on each individual sound or series of sounds and whether I thought that was a realistic sound I would hear in the woods.

There are specific sounds I liked.  Two callers used an estrus buzz which gained them a little. Caller 21 was one of the only ones to throw in a locator bugle so I noted that as i was scoring.  Caller 5 had a bunch of great cow calls (wide range) as well as clean accurate bugles with lip hawk control.  Caller 6 had a wide variety of cow sounds as well as excellent bugle control, etc...

I think mine was # 3 or 4 that I sent in. My first one I did not watch a timer and 2ND one had way to much cow calling on it and not enough time for other crap. I think 3 was over the time limit by like 5 or 6 seconds. Then I am sure 4 was it. I walked outside in my front yard with my video camera and wind blowing and gave it a shot :chuckle:

I was 13
