Big changes coming for Idaho?
« on: June 04, 2012, 01:10:41 PM »

Idaho fish and Game is conducting a survey about elk hunting in Idaho.  The questions they are asking tell me that they are contemplating big changes.  I would hate to see Idaho change their big game hunting rules, even though they aren't perfect.

Here is a link to the survey

if they do go to a point system maybe they'll have bonus points awarded for filled wolf tags  :chuckle:

I figured the largely reduced out of state hunting revenue would be addressed sooner than later.

This probably has a lot to do with wolves eating up all the elk.

5 years for this to happen to us.

Sounds like a lot of draw hunts and preference points are in Idaho's future...

Maybe if they reduce the price if the non res tags and go open season no tags report only on wolves the herds would have a chance

It takes REALLY intensive hunting to thin out wolves... In AK the only way they could make it happen was with arial gunning. and that does not seem to work very well in ID because of the hills and trees. Esesntially they need a coyote type season for them and THEN they will get close... shoot on site.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Normal ID.  They do more surveys than any state that I have seen, and nothing ever seems to come out of them.

Maybe they will wake up and smell the coffee and keep wolves down to no more than 30 animals state wide.

Well, truthfully, they couldn't just keep offering all those over the counter non resident elk hunts forever.  They're the only state that does. :dunno:
I am afraid what Special T said is right though... regular wolf hunting isn't going to fix the problem.  They're just too smart.

They have no reason to change there system. Even though they may be the only state to sell over the counter elk tags (besides Wa), they been having a problem selling out those tags the past couple years. And we never run into people when we are out hunting, they need to leave it alone. Over the counter elk tags is working just fine, they need to focus on wolves and poaching. They do not have enough game wardens in the woods. I filled out the survey and in the comment section ask them to not go to the points system.
“In common with”..... not so much!!
