Wyoming ?
« on: June 17, 2012, 12:47:06 PM »
a guy I work with has a little over 300 acres outside of Jeffrey City Wyoming and I know I am late for this year but thinking of trying for tags for next year. Deer and lope are all over his property and I have never applied in Wyoming before so I am just curios how hard is it to draw tags in that area?

Would prefer to go archery over rifle but will go for what ever is easier to draw.

Find out what unit(s) the property is in, and look at draw odds.

I don't have the unit map in front of me right now, so I'm not sure what region or unit it is in. Check it out and there may be leftovers for deer and antelope for this year.

looks like for antelope it would be 106 or 68 and for deer either 96 or 97. Looks like the left over tags go on sale in July. Gonna definitely check when they come out. The Wyoming draws between random and special and preference has me confused. Seems very complicated.

"The Wyoming draws between random and special and preference has me confused. "

Wyoming has "special" permits available that are drawn for a separate pool of applicants.  They are more expensive.  Draw odds are generally, but not always better.

You may, or may not wish to get preference points for Wyoming. If you have no preference points, you are in the "random" draw.  If you have preference points, your odds are improved:

"e. Big Game Preference Points. The preference point system is designed
to improve your odds of eventually drawing a license in a hard-to-draw
hunt area. For Moose, Full Price Bighorn Sheep, Elk, Deer and Antelope,
75% of available licenses in each hunt area and license type combination
will be allocated to a “preference point draw.” Applicants with the highest
preference point totals will receive priority in the preference point draw.
The remaining 25% of available licenses will be allocated to a “random
draw.” In this manner, everyone who applies has at least some chance of
drawing a license regardless of their preference point total.

I believe deer units 96 and 97 are in region E if I remember right.  And region E has leftover tags most years.  Antelope units 68 and 106 are going to take some points to draw.
