AZ White Mountains - Bear Hunting trip.. Anyone ever been?
« on: July 13, 2012, 01:18:42 PM »
Hey I figured I would throw this one out to the board to see what others experiences were..

My dad and I are heading down to the White Mountains in AZ for a high country bear hunt. This is Apache Indian land and apparently really nice for all species. I was just curious if any one had gone hunting there before and what I can expect???

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Yep. Got in between three bugling bulls in September for photos. Bring your camera, unless you get plenty of pics of 380 class bulls in WA on a regular basis  :chuckle:

I used to live in Tucson, AZ and went to college in Flagstaff.  The Mogollon rim runs from Flagstaff area all the way over to White Mountains.  Never hunted the White Mtn Apache reservation.  But, I would go over and fish in the summer.  LOTS of BIG bull elk up there when I lived there.  But, reservation tags are very expensive.

Beautiful country!  You will have a great time!

Just to clarify...are you hunting on the reservation or in the national forest around it?  I lived in Arizona for four years and spent a lot of time in the White Mts.  I've hunted elk and deer in units 1 & 27 and know those areas fairly well.  Also some great trout fishing in the high lakes.  However, I've never hunted the reservation.
