Why so many guys like peaches ridge...
« on: June 17, 2012, 06:59:06 PM »
Alright so everyone who asks for advice on their peaches ridge archery tag is told to go to Natches. Why? Not that that advice is bad but what's the reasoning behind it? I understand the pre '10 seasons 346 didn't have a early archery season so of course that was the Place. But now it's the same as 336.

harvest stats since '10( since general archery started in 446):

2011:
346 - LITTLE NACHES - PMU 33
        Antlered:   1 point:  2point:  3point: 4 point: 5 point: 6point+:
TOTALS  49        10   3        3             3        12    18

2010:
346 - LITTLE NACHES - PMU 33
        Antlered:   1 point:  2point:  3point: 4 point: 5 point: 6point+:
TOTALS  34        5.         3          0   1          7   18

2011:
336 - TANEUM - PMU 33
           Antlered:   1 point:  2point:  3point: 4 point: 5 point: 6point+
TOTALS   24           0        3.    0          1   3        17

2010:
336 - TANEUM - PMU 33
           Antlered:   1 point:  2point:  3point: 4 point: 5 point: 6point+
TOTALS   13.          0        0            1         0.       2        10

So it equates to GMU 336 = 72.9% of bulls killed were 6 point or better
GMU 346 = 43.9% of bulls killed were 6 points or better

I know more bulls were killed all in all in 346 but these numbers don't reflect hunter numbers in each GMU.

I'm know you can get into some great roadless areas in 346 but is that it? Most hunters don't utilizes that anyway.

So.... Tell me what your thoughts/ reasons are for people always suggesting the better Gmu is 346.  I'm trying to understand

I've hunted both units since I was 13 years old and have only killed elk in 336 out of the two.  I'm not sure why people think 346 is the better of the two units now after 346 got opened to the general season.

346 is way better.... less people get off the roads, and you can actually walk more than 1 mile without hitting another road... Go to 346!   More elk!

Kind of like when I drew my Observatory permit, the majority told me Peaches Ridge was better? Go figure. :chuckle:

If those are the DFW stats collected from post hunt surveys I wouldn't waste my time reading them.  Junk Science!

I still say hunt the Naches Side.

Ok, but what makes you say this? do you have experience in the units? More elk or what?
I killed a 6 point bull 2 years ago in 336. So I could say its good science. But I've never hunted 346. I scouted it and really didn't see a ton of elk like in 336??
