My Coyote Graveyard

Thought it might be fun to share my little coyote shoot.  May 1st my Uncle comes over to take me back to my truck I left at the bar the night before and he says "Is that a deer?"  Nope its a coyote...Run in the house, grab my gun and boom....coyote down (no pic).  May 11th my dog steps out on the porch, hair goes up and he heads for the brush, I grab my gun and out steps this coyote.  Biggest I've ever shot, missin 2 teeth and another one chipped.  Older dog.

2 hours later another comes running towards his buddy and I whack him too.

2 days later I whack another one not 100 yards from these 2 (no pic).  Then on the 19th I catch this one staring at his dead buddies.  Threw him right on top of them too.

Week later I Shot another one down by the creek (no pic) and too far to drag over to throw in the pile.  On the 31st I caught this girl staring at the carcasses.  See them in the back ground.  She was shot right where she lays.

Shot another one that evening (no pic) checking on the last dead one.  Crazy they can't help but go sniff their dead buddies.  And I haven't ever really had a coyote problem at the house.  I shoot every one I see.  Sure am glad I got these before the fawns dropped.  Good trick to use if you have the opportunity to watch a spot regularly is to put them coyotes right in the kill zone, because they just can't help smelling eachother even if they've been dead a while...Ahhhh good times.

It is...about 175 yards out at a normally down wind location...and I didn't mention the one I missed.  It was the easiest shot too, don't know how I missed it.  I would have posted the other coyote pics but I don't like being in the photos.  The one coyote me and my buddy were whatching Wicked Tuna on TV and I had 1 eye out the window for Wicked Coyote when it stepped out.  Got some good chum I suppose.  Also all of these dogs were shot between 10 am and 5 pm, never seen a thing at first light or late evening.  Most of the time I was outside working on stuff, the one coyote I spotted while riding around on my lawnmower.  Goofy. 

I had seen one of the elk that show up near my house, before this started, with hoof rot so bad I knew it would probably die, so maybe it was piled up in the woods somewhere and the pack had been munching on it.  Who knows.

You guys are gonna love this....LMAO...Come home about 11:30 am.  Look out at the coyote graveyard and there he stands in a trance, staring straight ahead, probably a full minute between the time I spotted him until I could reach my gun.  Never moved an inch.  That is exactly where I walked up and found him dead.  LMAO they can't resist visiting the coyote graveyard.

There is no other bait, just coyote bones and hair.  Everybody needs to start their own graveyard.  LMAO....  They can't resist.  I've lived here 5 years and wished I had started the graveyard long ago.  I started putting them in a pile just recently and they just go there to smell the dead I guess.  Theres nothing there left to eat.   

Its about 160 yards from my house, just rainged it again.
Dead coyotes is the only bait

I didn't put those bones there.  That is exactly where he stood.  Look above him see the spine/skull and other coyote bones farther up.

Sweet!  Great job man!
I have done that over a cow carcass.  I shot 6 in one day and 18 over a 3 week period.  Left all of the coyotes were they fell just like you.  It is pretty funny when you think how dumb they are for falling for what their brothers and sisters fell for!

Wierd for sure.  I set my trail cam out there today, just to see what else is going on.  Hope the cam works, my dumba** left it wide open for 8 days in the rain when I took out the batteries and memory card the last time.  I never knew there were so many coyotes around until I started the graveyard.  Glad someone else is onto this little trick too.  We should all be doing it....the satisfaction of shooting coyotes is great....especially this time of year.  I'm saving babies and most hunting is closed so this is a real treat.

my neighbors have like 30 + differnt kinds of chickens, rabbits, doves, ect ect.. needless to say the last month or so she said every night at about 11 or so three different packs will move in from each side and get within 50-80 yards of her house some even closer just trying to eat her animals so needless to say that is where i will be tuesday and wednsday night!!! wish me luck

If you make the big kill, start a graveyard.  I could probably be shooting more in mine, but I work out of town a lot.  Was gone for 9 days before I got the last one and I only started the graveyard about a month ago.  Still LMAO.  It really makes them dumb, the coyotes I've been shooting around the house before the graveyard were real cautious and gone in a flash...The coyotes coming from, going to, and standing in the graveyard act drunk and are giving me some easy shots.

I would still be killing coyotes there, I have heard them and seen things at the graveyard site, but the grass and brush has gotten so tall that I can barely see a deer walking through.  Bout a weak ago I could see something moving around there, put the spotting scope on it for over 20 minutes, but couldn't identify the target.  I'm sure it was a coyote, but what do you do....

I am going to bag up all I can of the bones/hair and move them to a spot that I can still see into.  The old location might produce again after the vegetation dies back down, but this winter will be the last time it will be visible so it must be moved.  Sorry I haven't set up my game cam on it, I actually did but my Bushnell broke permanently and my Cuddeback is just now functional again.  As soon as I get time to move the graveyard it will have a game cam on it.  I know there will be action there because I have heard them howling to their dead friends, just cant see'em through the tall grass/trees.  I am curious to see what all has been in there, 3 of the dead coyotes disapeared like they were carried off by something.

I can't believe how many coyotes are actually in this area.  I've probably shot 10 this year total and just last night I heard multiple coyotes howling.  I figured I put a big dent in their population, but maybe not.  Makes you wonder how any fawns survive at all.  When the coyotes are howling the only doe that has any fawns left comes right into my yard for protection.  Shes the only doe in the area that had any survivors last year too, but she is people friendly and keeps them fawns close to me and the neighbors houses.

   Just what I was thinking--even just cutting a shooting lane through the tall stuff.  I knocked down the tall Thistles that were growing up in front of my game camera.  Didn't seem to bother the deer any.

Haven't been home much, and apparently the coyotes were enjoying themselves.  Shot the first one 100' from my graveyard looked like he'd been munching a blue jay.  2 days later I here a coyote going nuts down by the creek.  Gave it a little yelp from my new Cowhorn coyote howler I bought from R.R. Game Calls (a site sponsor on here) and that thing came in so quick it was less than 50' away before I could put the call down and grab my gun.  1 male 1 female both looked healthy.   

Sorry if anyone is offended by the coyotes hanging from the branch, but something has packed off a few of them.  I want to keep the skulls/bones/hair from the yotes I'm shooting here....maybe its a fettish, or maybe they will be used later in scientific experiments.  Also, after 2 months of a game camera pointed at my coyote graveyard there was only 2 deer on the cam, but a bunch of coyotes and nothing else.

I was seeing a lot of deer around my property but come fawning time none of them had fawns, so I set out to see what was going on.  After tredging the back 40 I noticed a lot of coyote crap it was on every trail, in every clearing it was just crazy.  So I set out to kill a few.  Over the course of 3 months I killed 5 coyotes.  The next year we had 8 new fawns.  So, with out a dought you are doing the deer a huge favor.  Most people dont really understand how many coyotes there really are in the the woods.  Here in Southwest Washington most of the area is so overgrown you just never see them.  Great job keep it up.  I bet you money you have twice the amount of deer in the up coming years.

I sure hope there is more deer, and other critters too, like bunnies and grouse.  Killed a pile of them coyotes this year all within an area less than 5 acres and they just keep coming.  Got this female last night and could hear 2 others over the hill.  Coyotes sure decompose fast.  The 2 I got last weekend are now almost only skin hair and bones,  Have to say....sure do like my new Cowhorn Coyote Howler from R.R. Game calls.  Has them coyotes coming in to snoop around my place and then the Graveyard brings them into the open for the kill shot.

Good to see you're killing dogs. This wouldnt work for me since i like to sell the hides. Hope you have more critters around un the next couple years. Don't let up on them yotes!

Shot where he lays, right in the graveyard.  The hides on these dogs haven't been very good, but they are starting to look better.  This one was with 2 others, pretty small, probably early pups from this year, the first small one I've got yet.  They were trying to eat on the last dead one which is now just jerky on the bones.  Had the rope pulled tight tugging on it, which makes me believe that maybe it was coyotes that packed off some of the others.  Almost got a shot off on a second one, they might come back. 

It just seems weird that coyotes are the only predators that go to the graveyard.  I've had coons and a opposum at my house recently, but they don't go there for some reason.
