Porcini???
« on: September 09, 2021, 07:25:51 PM »
Alright mushroom experts, are these a Porcini/Bolete? Went up with a friend yesterday and picked 30 pounds of a huckleberry and blue berry combo. Stumbled across a few these and with a little research I believe they’re a porcini. Never picked them before. Safe to eat??? Thanks.

Look like king boletes to me. Quite the haul indeed! Care to share an elevation range?  We found a few around 5,000' a couple weeks ago, but the quest is still on.

King boletes most of them.  Were there by chance any birch trees where you found some of those?  A couple of those caps look like Lecchinum Scabrum, or Birch Boletes.  Every bit as edible.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

Thanks guys. They were roughly at 4000’. No birch trees around. If you’re going to pick blue berries or huckleberries, I’d recommend buying one of the berry picking tools. They really increase the amount you can pick.

Those are gorgeous, and don't look too eaten up. You are almost guaranteed to find some worms, but don't let that stop you!

those fat stems, sliced thick and sautéed in butter... one of my favorite mushroom bites!
