Cod
« on: January 18, 2022, 12:53:15 PM »
Ok, so I had the day off and decided to go throw some crab traps in for a few hours and see if I could catch some Dungeness crab, and hit the beach for razors later.
.
Struggled on the crabbing, had 2 that were just under legal, and one legal (had no claws, so I released him)
.
Hit the beach and dug my 15, and headed back by sunset.
.
Figured I would hit low tide for another chance for a crab on my way home.
.
Place was deserted, but I still had time before they locked the gate, so I rebaited and threw my traps.
.
Managed to get one keeper, then these bright lights from the water came in.
.
Commercial crabbing vessel comes in right off the pier, having issues (not from this port) and ties off.
.
I figure, I am done.
.
2 pickup trucks pull in, several conversations I am not a part of happen.
.
All but one guy get in the trucks and leave.
.
As I am putting my stuff in my truck, the one guy comes back and asked me if I wanted this cod they caught in one of their traps
.
Fresh caught cod?
.
Sure...
.
.
I am sure the season is closed on these, because I have a huge couple of egg sacks.
.
.
Google says "eat them"
.
Made me think about the liver.
.
Google says "eat it"!
.
I love my cod.
.
Fillets..
.
Never eaten the other stuff.
.
Even oysters (and I love them) need to be cooked.
.
Anybody got some recipes?
.
Can I freeze these, prepare later?
