Colorado Mule Deer 2025, Need advice
« on: November 20, 2024, 01:19:09 PM »
I spend a lot of time reading, not as much posting,
We are looking to put in for a late non resident mule deer hunt next year in Colorado, 4 of us, 3 currently have 6 points and the last guy has 5 points.

We would like to all put in together which from what i read right now would be at 5 points combined, we will gain a point next spring,
My question is what units would you recommend we try to get drawn for, what units with the amount of points we have would you recommend us to take a look at,
I like the 3rd and 4th season hunts.

Feel free to dm if you rather.

Thanks

You'll only gain a point if you're unsuccessful in the draw.

There's a lot of personal things to consider. Where do you want to hunt (big mountains, high desert, winter range, etc.).  Do you want to hunt a unit with a general elk season  at the same time that also gives out a lot of deer tags?

There's a lot to consider. Colorado is awesome and whatever you decide hit it hard and have fun.

I recommend looking at onx, gohunt or becoming a member of epic outdoors or a similar service to help narrow down your options.

You've got enough points to hunt some great units

You are correct that you'll go into the draw with 5pts.  CO goes by the lowest point holder in the group.  Also, you WILL NOT accrue an additional point in the spring unless you are unsuccessful in drawing tags.  CO awards points post draw.

Use GOHUNT to find a unit that meets your criteria, that is what I do when I am trying to determine that stuff for out of state. It is useless for Washington, but other states it can be a useful tool. Good luck

I’m in the same boat, 5 points. Looking to draw next year. Lots of good options for 3rd and 4th. As stated use onx or gohunt filtering to help narrow down your choice. Look at harvest stats, amount of public land, average buck size etc.. That’ll get you started in the right direction. Keep in mind, most units have OTC elk season starting the same time so there’s always that to contend with.

Colorado doesn’t have any mule deer I wouldn’t waste my time there  :chuckle: . You have a lot of options with your point total, I’d pick one that looks right and go have an adventure. Good luck!
