Trolling motor wiring
« on: July 29, 2024, 11:53:01 AM »
I got a MinnKota Riptide for my 210 Sea Runner. Plan is a 36V battery in a box under one of the benches, wired through a 60amp breaker that is also a power cutoff. I plan to run wiring through the gunwale to the bow. My question is, with the disconnect in the battery box, do I need a plug or quick connect on the bow? My thought is to just run it through a grommet As I'd like to have as few exposed electric connections as possible in the salt.
Thoughts?

Just run it through a grommet, the less connections, the better.

I run a plug, but I also use a Leelock and pop my trolling motor off when I need my anchor system. Not sure if you ever plan on taking the motor off and on though.

I like this type of battery nut, or I’ll Velcro a nut driver to the battery for quick disconnects.

I agree, just make sure you get a good grommet, you don't want to do any welding up there.  I would probably put a layer of heatshrink on the cable and then through a grommet but I tend to get carried away.
