Sea cucumbers
« on: May 15, 2021, 07:23:19 PM »
Never heard of anybody eating these except on an episode of MeatEater with Steve Rinella up in Alaska where they dove and caught a bunch and cleaned them and fried them into strips.....

Caught my curiosity

Then today at the beach fishing with my buddy I hit the mother lode, like flipped over 3 rocks and found a limit right there, took less than 15 minutes.... I tossed them back as I am unsure and don’t want to unnecessarily kill things but the tides will allow a harvest tomorrow and I live with a high end chef and am not squeamish about trying new things (even though they look like an orange rubber dong)

I hear the Asians pickle them and use them in stir fry

Any experience????

The meateater episode showed them skinned and gutted and fried up like clam strips which sounds pretty bullet proof

Joked about keeping one two weeks ago when the son in law caught one. Didn’t know you can eat them? Thought they were a bath sponge for the wife? Lol

Google them, lots of info on how to prepare them and this note about them, see OP  :o

According to some Chinese people, its helfty price tag is partly because of the fact that the ingredient is considered an aphrodisiac!

However, it is also said that it has blood thinning properties, which is not recommended for people already on blood-thinning medication.

I've had some. Too much work for too little payout, imo.

They are delicious, but hardly any meat in them.  Make sure you harvest the correct species.

+1, they do take work for a small amount.

Quite tasty if you can get someone else to process them!
