Lifer
« on: May 29, 2023, 08:21:53 AM »
I’ve had one or two of these this year.   In Birding, the term means first ever seen.  In my case I like to use it as first ever filmed.

I missed a really good shot on him as handling the big camera is kind of cumbersome, but he did pause long enough for me to get this overly cropped shot.

Thank you!   Yes.   They have quite a song.   Have to wonder if that’s where they got their name.

Very nice. I downloaded the Merlin app a while ago and use it a lot.  Verify the different birds we hear around the property and now recognize many more by their songs. Ravens with their different noises throws it off once in a while.

That app has gotten better and better.   I use it once in awhile while I am sitting at home.  I’ve learned a lot from it.   I didn’t have it with me on this trip, but we used it the other day to identify a new sound at our house.   A chipping sparrow.  I didn’t get a good photo of the bird or I’d get it posted here.   I did get to see it.  I never knew there were so many sparrows.
