South Africa 2024 booked! Who’s done archery in Africa?
« on: May 26, 2023, 05:50:16 AM »
My girlfriend and I bid on a safari at an auction on a whim and just booked our dates for April 2024. I’m pretty excited about it. This will be my first international hunt. I’ve read other threads on plains game in South Africa but haven’t heard much about archery. Anyone here done it? I’m trying to add an extra challenge and keep me from spending ALL of my money. Any particular species or things to consider?
Thanks
If a man does his best, what else is there?

Check out the Accurate Reloading forum.  more African hunting info than you will have time to go thru...  I am sure you can find archery info there.

Know a guy who spent a lot of time living in South Africa and he said the owner of the ranch he became buddies with didn't like archery guys because they couldn't get swept up in shooting more animals than they planned since it takes so much longer to stalk in shoot and recover. Sounds like a great way to have a fun hunt and not come back broke  :chuckle: good luck on your trip!

Depending on the rancher I would expect to hunt in well established blinds over water sources.  Most archery hunts are still hunts, in my experience.  I hunted the Vaal in 2009 and the game choices were outstanding.  You will see a ton of shootable game depending on the time of year and the heat.  Good luck!
