WBF 2024 Decoy Event
Washington Brant Foundation will host our annual fundraiser celebration with the 2024 Puget Sound Open Decoy Carving Competition, featuring entries from across the U.S. This year’s list of guest celebrities include newcomer Del Herbert from CA. This Master Carver been voted a “Living Legend” of carving by Ward Bros Museum, home to the world championship contest. Del, a long time instructor, has won more than 150 Best of Show awards, including Best in World “Shootin Rig” at Ward Museum world championship – twice! Returning will be Marty Hanson from Wisconsin, recognized by many as one of the most talented U.S. carvers. He is the subject of an upcoming documentary titled “The Craft”. Also coming back is Dr Chris Nicolai, noted carver and biologist from Delta Waterfowl Foundation in North Dakota. Chris is definitely one of the most prolific banders of wild waterfowl ever. Other master carvers attending include Brad Snodgrass from Oregon and former world champion Tom Newell from LaConner, WA. Please take time to visit with these carving notables that have come a long way to join us. Competition classes include Youth/Novice, Open Working, Special Mini (drake can), and Brant. Displays are planned by Washington Waterfowl Assn, Ducks Unlimited, Dennis Fisk, and Craig Cimmiotti from OR. Here is a post from the brant foundation. Last year I personally had a chance to see the call Ben carved for Marty Hanson, and got to try out Ben's call. Ben is a 3rd generation call maker and his single Reed calls blow as easy as any double Reed I've ever used. Butter smooth and beautiful. I can bet this call will fetch a chunk of change. I wish I had the wad of cash to bid on this bad boy. If you want to see some mind blowing carving he is on Facebook.
We commissioned Benjamin H. Tyler III to carve a duck call for our auction this year. It Is an open water call carved out of Mississippi Black Walnut and the white inlay is Idaho deer antler. If you want to bid on this item the evening of May 18th contact us.

This was a cool event. I love looking at all the carved decoys. The call sounded as beautiful as it looked. I'm gonna have to try my had at carving a few gunner decoys at some point.
