Wader Review 2012
« on: July 15, 2012, 10:43:17 AM »
I am looking to buy some new waders this year and was wondering what everyone is using or liking?

Currently I am looking at purchasing the Drake MST Eqwader or the Macks Prairie Wings Grand Prairie Chest Wader. Also, if you know of some obscure or lesser named companies making great waders that would be nice as well.

Look forward to the feedback.

What kind of hunting do you do? Do you walk long distances or hunt mainly from a boat? Hunt late into the season?

All three. I vary it up quite a bit but I probably walk more. I am also looking at some breathables. The Caddis Breathable Wader looks good.

I have two pairs. I have a lighter pair of hodgeman for the early season and then I have the cabelas supermags for the late season. They are a little heavy and walking is a bit more work but they are well worth it when it gets cold. I VERY rarely have my feet even remotely cold in them.

i have had my simms waders for going on 8 years now. expensive, yes but worth the price when they hold up for that long, ive only had 2 leaks which were both my fault and they patched right up. i know they are not "hunting" waders but maybe you could throw a set of light camo pants over them. no other wader company can touch simms imo. :twocents:

I have had my Simms for 5 years and I do a lot of fishing and just the lasts 2 years I have worn them Duck Hunting out of a boat, they work great. They are a little spending but very versatile, I wear my jacket with it which is Camo!

Not that much. I can clean up pretty good on the ponds and marshes I have locally.

I have the Drake LST waders an Lacrosse waders, not sure what model on the lacrosse but 1200 grams of insulation.  Both have been good, but the drakes are like wearing iron, to me anyway.  I wouldnt say they are the most comfortable to wear but they sure keep you warm!
