Question about number of shells
« on: October 04, 2012, 02:21:01 PM »
I know my shotgun has to be unable to hold more than 3 shells, but I also heard that I can't have more than 15 shells on me while duck hunting. I have not been able to find anything in the regs about the number of shells except in regards to shotgun capacity. Anyone able to confirm and point me at the where it is listed in the regs if it is true?

Who said that 15 shell rule  :chuckle:

You want the truth, I have always taken a whole box  :chuckle: I had heard of the 15 shell rule, but I never did see anything about it in the regs. I think that I read it on a sign one time  :dunno: but I have heard it come up on here.

I've never heard of a 15 shell limit.

certain refuges have shell limits. Toppenish refuge is 25 shells. I think there are some in the skagit area that are only 15 shells per person.

Oh that makes sense now, Kola invited me duck hunting and iirc he mentioned it would be somewhere in Skagit. So it's probably area specific. Good to know though. :)

PS...it's normal that he is going to have me wear a feathered decoy suit right?  :chuckle:

Area specific, not state or federal.

I'm half blind, can't shoot, and give myself a two-box limit.

Supposed to keep the sky busting to a minimum but I'm not buying it.

Spencer is another one with the 15 shell rule

I never owned a shotgun till now. I have fired a few, but never at a moving target so I am going to try to get into a beginner shotgun class this weekend and do a bit of trap shooting to see if I can hit a flying target. Am kind of excited to try something new.  :IBCOOL:

3 shells in your gun. 15 shells in areas controlled by the WDFW. If it has a big red sign. it is a 15 shell area.

Just spend some time out in the yard flapping your arms and reaching down for the shotgun.  Keep looking behind you as the coyotes really home in on the biggest most active decoy.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska
