Dekuma scores.............little
« on: September 02, 2008, 03:40:35 PM »
After my bear hike that got fogged out, i decided to stand around my truck and wait for a while.  I was standing there drinking a cup of coffee when this little guy makes an appearance.   Just so happens I had the 12GA sitting on the tailgate for just such an occasion!

So, I decide to gut and skin him right there at my truck.  Finish that task, clean up and grab my coffee and lean back on the bed rail.  As I am just taking my first swallow of a warm coffee, finally, I catch movement and lo and behold, there is another one in the exact same spot.  As luck would have it, I still had a shotgun......... So........ I took that one too!
As I walked the 30 yards to pick up number two I was laughing about it and thinking I am really want to just drink my coffee.  As I bent over to pick up Mr.2, I catch Mr.3 out of the corner of my eye in the grass about 20 yards away.  Of course, I had to eject the shell and dig through my pocket to find another.   All the while Mr.3 is just staring at me.  Finally manage to drop the shell in, close the breach cock the hammer and pop him as well!

Pick them both up, walk back to my truck, and FINALLY drink my coffee, just in time to head out of the woods as it is starting to get too dark.

Between the missed coyote in the morning, the big bear I could not get a clear shot at due to the fog and these three tender vittles, Sept 1st was a great day to be in the woods!

Man we used to shoot a lot of those on a summer evening back home in Montana.  We used 22's and a head shot and they are right tasty when cooked right.  Sometimes would BBQ them and have my college buddies come over and with some beer that would make a good night.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Yep, going to fry them up in garlic butter in a little bit here.  MY daughter loves them.  Ever since she was three years old she has always begged me to shoot them.

I love shooting rabbits. I greased one over at my grandmas not that long ago with my grandpas crappy little 22 revolver. It ONLY took me like six shots :chuckle: They were getting into her garden and chewing up everything. I shot a couple with my old .17 HMR that Bearhunter has for sell in the classifieds. That split their wigs pretty well too.

Nice!!  My boys have been bugging me to take 'em rabbit hunting with their 20 gauges, but I never really see them.  Looks like you found 'em alright.  Good fun...

That's great! I'm looking for a decent rabbit place on the westside but haven't seen too many this year. Any ideas?

To be honest I think I just got lucky in this one small spot.  The area I was at has coyote in it, so they must be eating something.  That is why I happened to be there in the first place.

I have had good luck in the past in Greenwater at the top, but have not been up there this year.  FS74 is the road I go in on.

Nicely done!!!!  Once the snow flies I'm always amazed at how many snowshoe hares there are out there.  I see a gazillion tracks and nearly that many bobcat tracks while snowmobiling.

Noise seemed to keep drawing them in. Now that's a honey hole!
