I suppose the next thing will be that we will have to keep an inventory on all ammo and have to account for any change to that too. I don't believe that is my neighbors business. I just assume that all of my neighbors have guns of there own.

Map: Where are the gun permits in your neighborhood?

4:51 PM, Dec. 22, 2012

The map indicates the addresses of all pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties. Each dot represents an individual permit holder licensed to own a handgun — a pistol or revolver. The data does not include owners of long guns — rifles or shotguns — which can be purchased without a permit. Being included in this map does not mean the individual at a specific location owns a weapon, just that they are licensed to do so.

Data for all permit categories, unrestricted carry, premises, business, employment, target and hunting, is included, but permit information is not available on an individual basis.

To create the map, The Journal News submitted Freedom of Information requests for the names and addresses of all pistol permit holders in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam. By state law, the information is public record.

Putnam is still putting together its records and could not immediately provide any data. The map will be updated when that data is released.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY
This map shows pistol permits registered with the Westchester County Clerk's Office. Residents are required to renew the permit every five years. Zoom in and out for more information and click on a dot to see details of a permit.

ROCKLAND COUNTY
This map shows pistol permits registered in Rockland County, which are issued for life and do not need to be renewed. Zoom in and out for more information and click on a dot to see details of a permit. Rockland County splits permit holders into two categories:

(maps are shown on the web page)

Active (blue): Permit holders that have purchased a firearm or updated the information on a permit in the past five years.

Historic (purple): Permit holders with no activity in the past five years. Permit holders who have died or moved out of the area may not have updated their permit records, so some locations marked with a purple dot may not represent a current permit holder.

Map of how to disarm the public.  I have always felt this data should not be retained by officials.

I had a guy at the gun counter at Wholesale Sports tell me once that once your approved for purchase the government destroys the paperwork and doesn't keep it. I looked at him and laughed and asked him if he really believed that.

Well that is BS if you ask me.
This would be an invasion of privacy. What's next, me getting harrassed by all the anti-gun people, knowing exactly where I live? WTF!

The left is inch by inch creeping like a sniper on its target. I am not surprised at this at all. I have no words to express just how I hate the left thinking folks and their arrogance and methods they employ to get their agenda. Some not all, sorry. Some just follow like sheep and don't know why. I'm pretty good at one on one debate and discussions about some conservative vs liberal thoughts and beliefs verbally. I'm an idiot when writing though. Wish I could articulate better in text. What I am really trying to say is I get this deer in the head lights look, or a vacant stare of emptiness, or a flat out denial and look of confusion when engaged in discussion. A big FAT LIBERAL LIE.

This seems to be another tool, another chink in the armor and strength of the constitution of America and our FREEDOM.

This is New York State.  You can not own/purchase/keep a handgun there without a permit. It has been this way for at least as long as I've been alive...40 years. This map is also created through public information.  Any Joe Schmo can create a map of anything that out of public info assuming they have the time to do so.

I will take a shot at calling this BS. I grew up on the north end of the map just outside Kingston. 1st Kingston is in ulster county. 2nd there's like 1 dot in Kingston. I can tell you at a minimum 10 people I know who have permits in Kingston. Maybe I'm missing something.

Don't shoot me I am only delivering the story that I recieved. No way to verify this, but I have no reason to assume it's untrue.  :chuckle:

According to the website, the dots show guns registered in those two counties. If you back the map out, you will see there are a few dots even out west. Apparently they are saying those people are registered in the two counties mentioned but they know they live somewhere else.

When Ohio became Right to Carry, newspapers were printing people's names and addresses in the newspaper.
