I know lots of folks who use the barrels in various configurations. Some lab folks hang the barrels from chains off the side of the kennel and some build very simple legs for the barrels. I've seen pictures of those kits. Never seen anyone who's actually used one.

I just built one yesterday, not like that tho. 55Gal drum, 2/3 cut off on one end and sits in a wood crate so its off the ground.

I use them and the dogs love them.  A little bedding in them and they stay warm even in very cold weather.  Also almost bomb proof.

Just get a barrel with a lid and cut a hole big enough for the dog to get in and out. Make a square box from 2"x6" the same dimensions as the barrel and set the barrel inside the box to keep it from rolling around.

Just be mindful of where you get your barrel. I got one at Pautzke's once. Didn't use that one. Didn't think about the after effects of brining fish eggs....smelly.. The ones from the Welch's grape juice plant smelled good though...

I ordered mine straight from the K-9 Kondo company.  Just ordered doors for my outdoor kennel that I am building.  They have been great to deal with.

Most places that have any type of food production have them on hand. I think I paid $5 for one from Welch's once. Might check with Twin City Foods see if they have a few?
