best time of day for west side dog hunting?
« on: February 17, 2013, 10:55:44 AM »
Can I just go out any time I feel like it or should I hit the early morning and late evening like deer?  Or is spotlighting the only way to go?

Early and late are always best. Doesn't mean you can't call them in during the mid day just less natural movement then.

3 weeks ago I called in a bobcat and 2 coyotes between noon and 1 PM in western WA. I look at predator hunting as fun and go when it works for me. Not near as serious as big game season, when I see every sunrise from the woods as possible.

Pretty much the same anywhere, they're gonna be more active just before/after sunrise & just before/after sunset (and throughout the night). Remember that they're like a dog, when they get tired or their belly is full - they won't come to your call. If they're out and about & are more so hungry then they'll cautiously come into your call

I had the best luck in late afternoon and mid-morning.  Maybe those were just the most common times I went?  I still say early evening and late afternoon.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.
