If they don't have the teeth that your supposed to send in, are they too old?  :dunno:

That must have been a cub, was there still milk around his lips!  :yike:

I didn't know cubs could weight 200+ lbs.  :chuckle:

Poor thing spent way to much time in the den playing big slob hunter on his WI instead of  outside frolicking with his sibling, obese cub syndrome!  :yike:

The oldest bear for me was 21.5 yrs old.  I have the card from WDFW, prior to the Wild ID number.  7.5' nose to tail, weighed close to 500 pounds, and yes it was a true 500 pounds.  Actually would have weighed more but he had a broken front leg and was missing half the front paw.  His leg was atrophied and mostly just bone and skin, his spine was curved from tri-podding for so long.

The book bear (boar) that I got this year is probably 16 years old but haven't aged him. Just going by the bear a friend got that was aged at 15 and mine looked a to be worn down a bit more.

Is there a way to age them other than the WDFW tooth method?  Long story but my ID number did not get submitted with my tooth.

We have killed hundreds of bear, the oldest boar was in WA the card came back to the hunter at 24.5, that bear was #7 in SCI at the time and was the heaviest we ever got. The oldest sow was an 80 pound spring bear in Idaho, they said she was 27, amazingly small and very skinny. Both were killed with hounds quite a few years ago, we have not killed anything close to that old in a long time. Maybe 15-18 is the oldest bear we've killed in recent years (my own estimate based on teeth).

Of the ten bears I have killed I have ages on 8 of them. The youngest was a 3 year old sow that I called in and killed from about 25 yards with my 300 Win Mag in September of 2006.
Took this 7 year old boar with my 45 Colt revolver at about 25 yards May of 2007 in the Dayton unit:

Took this 9 year old sow in the West Blues unit May of 2008:

Took this 10 year old boar in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness of Idaho May of 2003:

Took this 10 year old boar in SE Alaska May of 2004:

Took this 12 year old boar in the Blue Creek unit May of 2005:

Took this 13 year old boar (my biggest) May of 2001 in the Wenaha Wilderness:

Took this 17 year old boar (my oldest) with my 45 Colt revolver after calling it in September of 2009 in the Blue Creek unit:

Skull from 17 year old boar:
