Ask the people of Asia what wolves do when they get hungry.

FYI - Moose are practically gone in northern Minnesota, their Fish and Game is still doing studies to try and figure out why the moose are disappearing.

wolves I saw last weekend were not afraid of us as they crossed over the ridge even closer than I first saw them
Please don't tell me you saw wolves in 18? That was the one place in Idaho I have never heard them.

Wolves have been in 18 for awhile.  They seem to be affecting the deer more than the elk.   :dunno:

Why did that guy attack that wolf with his head?  He really shouldn't have provoked the wolf.

After the wolf attacked Graham, sometime between 4 and 4:30 a.m. Saturday, he struggled with it briefly.

“After I got up, I was kicking at it and screaming at it, and it wouldn’t leave,” he said. “But then after a while I got it to run away.”

Graham’s girlfriend fled during the attack.

“She ran and got in her Jeep right away,” he said, and two members of the camping party slept through the screaming, kicking and fighting, he said.

He's lucky to be alive.  :yike:

:yike:  I cant beleive the other two campers did not wake up through that :yike:
Teens on a campout = alcohol-induced "deep sleep" - at least that was the equation when I was a teen.  I once threw a string of ladyfingers into a 2-man tent in which 4 post-concert teen males were "sleeping": although the tent was completely destroyed by the ensuing flailing, two of the four "slept" through the entire event.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Wait until you are out shed hunting and you have that creepy feeling run up your spine, and you look up and there is one standing there watching you.   It does wonders to the heart.

I was out last weekend enjoying Arizona's summer archery deer hunt. I was climbing up a mountain and nearly bumped into a bedded mountain loin just below the peak. Huge male. So close I remember his facial features. He ran up to the top of the hill and I opted to glass elsewhere.

According to Dr. L. David Mech, a wolf researcher with the University of Minnesota and the U.S. Geological Survey, writing on the International Wolf Center website: “Two interesting wolf-human encounters in Northeastern Minnesota add further to the mix of ways in which wolves have interacted with humans, without the humans coming out seriously injured.

since when is a 4.3 inch gash in the head not considered a "serious injury"

http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/2013/8/27/how_to_avoid_a_wolf_attack.htm

The DNR offers the following tips for an encounter with an aggressive wolf:

In the rare event that you do have an encounter with an aggressive wolf, wildlife officials say:

– Don’t run. Act aggressively, stepping toward the wolf and yelling or clapping your hands if it tries to approach.

– Do not turn your back toward an aggressive wolf. Continue to stare directly at it. If you are with a companion and more than one wolf is present, place yourselves back to back and slowly move away from the wolves.

– Retreat slowly while facing the wolf and act aggressively.

– Stand your ground if a wolf attacks and fight with any means possible (use sticks, rocks, ski poles, fishing rods or whatever you can find).

– Use air horns or other noisemakers.

– Use bear spray or firearms if necessary.

– Climb a tree if necessary; wolves cannot climb trees.   I don't know why... but that hit me funny :chuckle:

i wish the young man well.
